With a regular pick I might add. Still though, If you get the version you posted up to speed, it's absolutely just as beautiful in my opinion. Nice Work! Lot's of awesome ways to skin a cat, or play a once in a lifetime genius guitar solo.
@ninjim3 and Ritenour doesn't miss one freakin note, not one muffled string, in not once, but two times he does the solo, live in front of a packed stadium...unbelievable.
Yep. With Paolo Nutini at the Montreux Jazz Festival, Ritenour is on two strings; he does the solo twice, once in the middle and once at the end....he's still a freak of nature on 2 strings...Check out Shuggie Otis' original rendition, so you get an idea of the original genius behind the song. Wrote it at age 16...including the solo....and then performed it too ... Wow.
Okay I found Ritenour doing it here on YouTube. You can plainly see (when the camera is on him) he's doing this on two strings. I'm not trying to be a jerk, it's just that you probably dig the solo as much as I always have and if you want to get it up to tempo, it just can't be done over three strings. It's impossible!
I've been working on this and I'm convinced Ritenour executed the pattern on two strings. The forth one is a stretch, but it was the only way I could get it up to tempo cleanly.
Wow...absolutely beautiful. Now I really can respect what Ritenour actually did with Otis' solo...infrigin'credible....makes the song that much more beautiful...Thanks!
good stuff fella!
