A crucial scene in the 1970 movie Airport, as the movies leading plane suffers an explosive decompression after a bombs detonation. Helen Hayes gives a great performance as the stowaway.

  • "Sudden decompression at 30,000 feet is something you gotta see to believe". This line uttered from Joe Patroni played by George Kennedy was absolutely accurate. If you need convincing of the power of air pressure, capture a housefly, carefully guide it inside a party balloon, pump it air into it to the point of near capacity and tie the end. Then pop the balloon. Have a hand-held vacuum cleaner handy to clean up the fly body parts.

  • @irvinetap707 Very true. Adjusted for inflation, "Airport" grossed about $525 million in 2011 dollars -- that's more than the last Harry Potter film!

  • Many people do not realize that "Airport" (the original 1970 film) was the most popular film of the early 70's and got the hightest ratings when it was televised in 1973. In 1970 "Airport" was a real "nail-biter". The whole movie with the great music score evokes an intriguing excitement, perfectly capturing the aura of jet travel in the 60's Over 4 decades later it has not lost its thrill (at least not for me).

  • @avservmedia The old saying is "set 77, hope we go to heaven".

  • Its difficult to take this film seriously after having seen "Airplane!"

  • What a bad time to take a shit.

  • 1960 not 1970. Slap the old women!

  • @Ypipable I agree. She is my favourite in this movie

  • @ronnykmarshall THAT PASSENGER TRAITOR IS A SON-OF-A-BITCH,

  • I love it when those days in the movies where anybody can slap anyone just like that... now the only thing we can slapped each other is a lawsuit. Sorry no pun intended.
