How to add Materials (and multiple materials) to an object. I also discuss some of the basics of material properties.

  • I nice thing to add to the tutorial is that Emit does something different in cycles. It actually becomes a light source for other objects to use. - I'm not sure what else the cycles render does differently but it would be good in the future to add the differences in. Maybe just add word bubbles to videos where there is a difference. At any rate really love your tutorials and I have learned a lot. That cycles thing was the only thing I knew about before hand XD

  • @DarkerCry Thanks, and good point. I'm avoiding cycles at the moment until I make a mini-series of videos specifically about it. As far as my videos are concerned now, I'm referring only to the 'old' Blender render engine. I happen to think it's a just fine engine by the way.. with the right lighting/textures you can make anything look great, though it is exciting and will make things easier, if not (much) slower renders.

  • thank you for this tutorial. helped me a lot coz im so blind i did not see the assign button lolz,

  • The file of blender can be also open in After Effects?

  • I'm just learning about blender, and have to say the clear instructional way you've demonstrated how to change, and control colours is great, keeping within basic descriptions for a newbie is how tutorials should be.

    many thanks

  • Great video, thank you!

  • Good tutorial as you clearly explained the different materials controls. Thanks.

  • @cgboorman well can't wait to see the mini series then :3 - Please continue to make more. Your tutorials seem to be fairly popular. Advertise them on the blender forums if you haven't already!
