  • Well I see that Metal Box and Reel to Reel both came out November 1979. But "Death Disco" aka "Swan Lake" had been out as a single before that, and I submit that this sounds at least a little like that. Totally love this. I agree that Forbes was invaluable, I think McGee deserves praise too, nothing against Mel but I love McGee's style.

    Memories are fickle !

  • This is a great track, always loved it. Great rhythm section playing. They are definitely inspired by PIL's "Metal Box". McGee and Forbes together was something special.

I'm afraid you've got your dates mixed up, this was before Metal Box. But I agree with yoor sentiments. My opinion for what it's worth is as soon as they "lost" Derek Forbes, Simply Minds were finished

  • note to self *nice beginners bassline*

  • @sonrev

Simplicity is very often better ! Derek Forbes was a great bass guitarist, and Simple Minds went completely downhill without him.

  • Love this track. "Real To Real Cacophony" is a classic Post-Punk album.

Yes.. I think Simple Minds were also inspired by Lou Reed a lot. David Bowie

  • @therealsoulproduct

Absolutely some classic tunes on there, Factory, Real to Real, Calling your name etc..

Changeling, Premonition, I can go on to all of them lol

  • @frankschlanker + Talking Heads = Simple Minds

  • Anyone else think this sounds a bit Talking Heads? BRILLIANT THO!!

  • @snoageltd hey did not want to make it sound like it was a beginners bassline, its that Im the beginner here and its an excellent bassline! And yeah, the early rythm section in the early simple minds was simply brutal

  • Is this really over 30 years old...? Lord have mercy, it still sounds fantastic...my favourite of theirs...
