It would be nice if Bob'd just record a whole album just like this. An acoustic, a microphone, his voice, his words, and nothing else.

I always thought that one reason he never got the attention and success he desrves is that with the harsh music and the affectation of pain in his voice, the uninitiated have a hard time seeing the irony, emotional growth, and showmanship in his words. They're turned off by the superficial negativity. This could be said of any number of bands that deal with the same subject matter. I believe this is why Bob felt moved to write the song "Along the Way".
