Let's comment in the skating and keep the politics out of it!

What does any of this have to do with skating people?!
-
@JNagarya She is Polish. She went by her middle name of Lynn for a last name. Her married name is Solomon.
Yes,the Communists were nasty to the West. There are prime examples of that at the Worlds in 1972 in Bratstilava. The American brother-sister team Millitanos told of how they were treated etc.
As for Janet, she is in the US Polish Hall of Fame.Nowicki is a Polish name. Not all Polish names end in ski.

@HattieLovesCattie Perhaps she didn't us it because she isn't Polish -- she wasn't born in Poland -- and or because she preferred her married name.
But let's be certain to never miss opportuity to bash "Commies," even if we have to invent excuses to do so.

I'm no skating expert, but I've never seen anyone skate as freely as she did before or since. Also, it goes without saying that without school figures, Janet Lynn would've been a household name.

Janet Lynn shows titles and medals don't equal greatness, it's what in your heart that really matters. If someone would ask me to choose a skater children could look up to, I'd name Janet Lynn. Even I as a 34-year old look up to her. :-)

Her maiden name was Norwicki. She didn't use it as its a Polish name and the communist judges wouldn't like it and it was hard to pronounce.Tara Lipinski didn't have that problem years later.Tara is the most " overlooked " gold medalist then there is Sarah Hughes.
"..this pixie-ish, little blonde from Rockford, Illinois."

I hope the skating fans that saw Janet skate live in old communist eastern Europe can enjoy her programs years later here on Y T.
