@nickplaysvideogames In keeping consistency with the rest of the game, you have to be Human to summon NPCs or players.

@gothefungus Ah, very informative, thanks. I haven't yet gotten to NG+ so the special sets have been taking care of me.

@PsychoticPengu Definitely, it just depends on play style. There are good arguments for putting souls into just about any kind of equipment in this game as far as I can see.

lol your awesome videos have convinced me (a chicken in most games like this) to actually try this game and most likely fail at it. but thanks to you i shall fail at it laughing my ass off. *salute*

@dark316 Haha, glad to know that more people are being converted to the cause. This game teaches humility and patience, and it does so using an iron fist. Once the player learns to get over him/herself (a hard thing to do in a video game market that is saturated with hand-holding experiences) then the game becomes a rewarding, almost zen-like experience.

@MrUndeadDoc Yeah I've heard about summoning NPCs but never had the chance to do it. I'll keep my eye out for any opportunities to do so!

You can get away with not upgrading your armor for most of your initial playthrough - the game feeds you several non-upgradeable special sets that are almost as good as a fully upgraded set - but if you want a set below <25% that doesn't die to every hit, or that has high natural Poise without taking up a ring slot, you need to homebrew. And by NG+ the upgraded sets are pretty much strictly better.

@gothefungus This is very useful info, thanks for posting it. High natural poise is something I'm really looking to focus on in the future.
