This scene is about Dr. Eliza Mosher, an 1875 graduate of the University of Michigan Medical School, who was persuaded by President Angell to give up her private practice in 1896 to become the first Dean of Women. As Professor of Hygiene in the Literary department, she was also the University's first female faculty member. Here, Eliza Mosher is reimagined through a rollicking musical number.
Written by Mary Shelly and Holly Hughes. Directed by Erin Markey and Holly Hughes. Featuring Mary Shelly as herself, Brie Diehl as Eliza Mosher, Camille Johnston as the "Dancing Uterus," and the fabulous rollerblading talents of Sara Holwerda.
Part of "Who's Afraid of Virginia Ham?" a live performance by Holly Hughes and collaborators, created for the 10th Anniversary of the UM Institute for Research on Women and Gender.
