The best prize we got for winning the Rock Band tournament at Sakura Con was the chance to play a song of our choice on the main stage at the closing ceremonies, which was attended by about 2000 people. It was incredible being able to play on a stage like that to such a crowd! We picked this song because it seemed only fitting for a convention centered around Japanese culture.
Unfortunately the vocal part didn't go incredibly smoothly for me, as you'll see from the video. The fact that the mic stand was positioned right behind a big speaker that was blaring very loudly meant that large amounts of feedback and distortion came into play, preventing the mic from registering my singing most of time (the arrow was almost always on the line but flickering on and off like crazy, often not filling the pie at all) and occasionally warping the pitch of the sound entirely (particularly during lower pitches, like the phrases that end with "dear" and "fear" - it sounds like I'm singing those incorrectly, even though the arrow was always on the line).
Fortunately Less Than Pi got through it, as we did the tournament, through the power of teamwork. Pulsar and Willay immediately saw that I was struggling and came to my aid, spreading out their activations throughout the song to help rescue my character. They were looking out for me when I needed them, which just goes to show how they aren't just amazing players but great people as well. I couldn't have asked for better teammates.
Even though I was embarrassed and quite shaken by nearly failing out the entire band on stage, I'm uploading the video anyway because it was such an honor being able to play for an audience at an event like that. My only regret is that I was too worried about failing to just enjoy myself and perform more - if only we'd turned on the No Fail option! But it's okay - now we'll know what to do next time, right? ;)

You guys did an awesome job, hopefully next year's winners will get a little better sound check, we were not expecting tech problems to come about, but now we know what to look for next time. I hope you guys enjoyed playing on the stage though =)

Hey it's really no problem. We had a blast and it was awesome having the chance to play up there. :D Thanks again for giving us the opportunity - it was epic!

Wow, the people who set this up were really too dumb to realize that having speaking so close to the mic would interfere? Oh well, for next time, keep in mind rule number one of playing for an audience (and not for score): vox always goes on easy mode. That way you can belt it out without any worries. Congrats on the tournament win!

They let us do a brief sound check before the show and things were working alright at that point. But they didn't turn up the volume nearly as loud as it was going to be for the main event, so when it came time to do the real thing, the conditions were rather different.
I don't blame the sound crew at all - they had a ton of things to set up for the show, and Rock Band just isn't designed for this kind of thing. Like I said in the video description, we should have turned on No Fail mode.
