I love how everyone's so shocked that Damian Lewis (Major Winters) is British xD Some of the cast said they refused to believe he was British cos his accent was so good :D

@kingewan no. but it gave them an idea. they can take what they went through at boot camp and mentally multiply that by a hundred and they have a clue that the average civillian doesnt.

A big reason things like this are produced in the UK is the fact that apart from our expertise , a whole wealth of props are never more than a few hours away , as we are a nation of hoarders, collecters, generally nerds lol. If you were to film it in America ie Hollywood , you may have a company in NY state that does the smoke, another in Texas that does costumes etc, and its all a bit expensive & time consuming getting it all in one place. Being a small island has its advantages !
