It may at the right distance but still inhabitable.

It may be habitable but still not have any life.

It may have life but still not intelligent life.

It may have intelligent life but still not have developed radio waves yet.

It may have had all of those things but still have lost them already.

Cross your fingers if you want (I do) but don't get too excited. There are still too many unknown variables to even make an educated guess at this point.

@CommanderC4 - and of course, humans are narrow-sighted to assume that any extraterrestrial civilizations are using the same communication technology that we are. Everyone is getting over-excited over Gliese 581's planets... we're only just at the beginning of able able to detect Earth-like planets -- there will be more discoveries to come. Once we find planets with chlorophyll and atmospheric oxygen and carbon dioxide, then we can target those worlds for communication signals.

The day oil runs out we will start looking for real fuel alternatives and if we stop believing in nonesense religions and stop invading other peoples places we might begin to work together in at least sending someone to the moon and be able to put a proper telescope to be able to discover at least a closer planet where we could reach and trash it like we're doing with this one!!...one day...

Now, in regards to interstellar communication, we may not even be going at it the right way. We're listening in on frequencies that make sense to us... while alien civilizations might be transmitting on different frequencies altogether that make sense to THEM. Or we may not even have nearby neighbors at all within listening distance
