The press is in danger of being over regulated according to the Daily Mail's editor Paul Dacre.

Mr Dacre was addressing a seminar on media standards ahead of the Leveson inquiry into the phone-hacking scandal.

He also questioned why Lord Justice Leveson's inquiry had greater powers than the public inquiry into the Iraq war.

Mr Dacre said the Press Complaints Commission, of which he is the current chair, had changed the "culture of Fleet Street" and its Editors' Code was strictly adhered to.

  • I also believe he was very rude talking over the top and interupting the judge when he was asked questions....very rude man...indeed. !!

  • I agree this man is arrogant and obnoxious and lives in the 1930s.!

  • This guy is Mary Whitehouse on crack. He, as does his paper, want's the world to revert back to the picture postcard view and values of middle class Britain in the 1950's. Everything that goes into the Daily Mail has an angle that fits into his personal world view. When they do have facts they merge fact, comment and conjecture that fit's his agenda

  • From the Guardian:

Paul Dacre had hand in accusing Hugh Grant of smears, Leveson inquiry hears

Paul Dacre, the Associated Newspapers editor-in-chief, had a hand in the drafting of the Daily Mail publisher's statement accusing Hugh Grant of "mendacious smears", the Leveson inquiry has heard.

  • His speech translated: I'm very rich, please don't regulate us too harshly so my wife and I can continue to live the high life and we can continue to pay high wages to staff to spout lies about prominent people.

  • Read the lies they print:

    mailwatch.co.uk

    tabloid-watch.blogspot.com

    icorrect.com

  • SHAME

  • The most disgraceful, shameful, pathetic peace of filth I have ever had the misfortune to read. PRINT THAT!

  • This dickhead hes just as bad.
