@AgentJayZ Very intresting! Ive seen a single ball bearing from a CM6 that was all heat discolored but it was still shiny and smooth, i guess its a testament to the high precision, hardness and quality of it.

Thats pretty cool! Great images ot the components you've shot there. That main bearing is a precious piece. Whats one of those bearings cost? It must have quite a thrust load on it during operation I would guess? Is that a common way turbines are built with all the thrust load on a center ball bearing?

@mytmousemalibu There's usually only one thrust bearing, and the others on each end of a shaft are roller, so the shaft can expand and contract from heating and cooling with out damaging the bearings or buckling under the stress.
The price of the bearing? I don't know exactly, but you could get a nice used car for the same amount...
