My Little Pony Original: G1, My Little Pony Tales: G2, My Little Pony Revised: G3, and Friendship is Magic: G4. The toy series had a cruddy G2 model that wasn't successful, maybe you are thinking about that.

As far as I'm concerned (being born in 1983 and female) there were no good MLP cartoons between the '86 movie and Friendship is Magic. And the only well designed toys were G1 and G3.

@Saberspark G1 had two cartoons, where Tales was far more succesful in Europe. Within G1 they also got toys, around 1993. G2 had a complete new style but no cartoon and also lasted longer in Europe. G3 had films and short, was very succesfull and lasted long. G3.5 used the same characters but had a drastic new look not many liked. It too had films and short but wasn't that successfull. G3.5 Newborn Cuties line had some shorts too. Then there was G4.
