TV announcement that a Lagos High Court has nullified the removal of Mr Bunmi Oni as Managing Director of Cadbury Nigeria Plc.
In her judgement delivered to a packed courtroom on Friday, 12th November 2010, Justice Phillips ruled that the purported dismissal of Oni by a letter dated 11th December 2006 and signed by Dr Imo Itsueli, then Chairman of Cadbury, was not only wrongful and unlawful, but also a repudiatory breach of Mr Oni's contract of employment.
Justice Phillips therefore ordered Cadbury Nigeria to pay all of Mr. Oni's rights and entitlements accruing till six months from the wrongful termination on 11th Dec 2006. The Judge dismissed Cadbury's counterclaims in its entirety for lack of evidence and ruled that Cadbury Nigeria should pay Mr. Oni the sum of N100, 000(One hundred thousand naira only) as legal costs.
Mr Bunmi Oni served Cadbury for almost 30 years and during his tenure as Managing Director, the company won many national and international awards and also earned respect in the global business community. Mr. Oni was also revered and acknowledged as a role model and business icon inside and outside Nigeria. Amongst, many other honours, he was voted the MOST RESPECTED CEO in Nigeria in 2006 and was also conferred with a National Honour, Member of the Order of the Niger(M.O.N) in 2001.
