Stereotype Map.mov

A traditional map gives the location of a physical place or landmark. The animation, Map of Stereotypes reveals assumptions. It transforms the map from a supposably objective object into a subjective one.

As preconceived ideas float above a map of the United States, crude representations of the different regions of the country hurl insults as they describe their fellow citizens.

The familiarity of many of the floating stereotypes, insures their continuation, whether they are actually believed or not.

At a time when the US is sharply divided politically and culturally, the Map of Stereotypes highlights the ridiculousness of our infighting.
