Death Of Truck Driver Provides Spark For New Life Saving Invention.

JACKSONVILLE, FL (March 19, 2009) - Surefooting Safety Systems Inc., a Jacksonville-based safety design and manufacturing company, established by the owners of Auto Carrier Express Inc after the death of a driver in October 2008, today announced the development of its Surefooting Safety Platform. The platform provides protection from falls for truck drivers who have to load and unload cars from the top of car carriers.

Randall Long, a hard working father of twin eight year old girls suffered a head injury while loading vehicles onto a car carrier in October 2008 which proved fatal within 48 hours. In the subsequent OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) investigation, the nine to ten foot fall hazard that motor carrier drivers routinely encounter was identified as a catastrophic risk and the quest to provide protection for these men and women began. The Surefooting Safety Platform is the brainchild of Christopher and Gilbert Hanks, two seasoned trucking professionals with over 53 years of combined car hauling experience.

The safety platform provides a level of fall protection for motor carrier operators that was previously unavailable to the industry. "The Surefooting Safety Platform is poised to revolutionize the safety levels that are available to car haulers who risk life and limb on a daily basis", said Gilbert Hanks founder and CEO of Surefooting Safety Systems Inc. Prior to the Surefooting Safety Platform, there has never been a foolproof way of providing easily deployed fall protection for the upper level of a car hauler.

Over 3,000 truck related falls were reported to OSHA in 2007. Given the lack of reporting requirements, it is assumed that this number could easily be doubled to come up with an annual estimate of truck related slips and falls. The intent of the safety platform is to increase safety and reduce stress on the driver, their families, their employers and their insurers.

The platform has been designed to allow ease of construction, using materials that are available nationwide and can be manufactured and installed onto a truck in a matter of days. The simplicity and effectiveness of the design will lend itself to quick adoption and implementation by motor carriers, said Christopher Hanks, Surefooting Safetys Head of Product Development.

Surefooting Safety Systems has applied for both design and utility patents on the Surefooting Safety Platform and is presently analyzing various production and distribution methods for the product as well as applicability for use in other industries.
