Hurricane Force Winds Strike Louisville Kentucky 9-14-2008 ~ 1 to 3 pm edt

Hurricane Ike leaves its mark on the Nations 16th largest city

Kentucky and Southern Indiana took a direct hit from hurricane Ike clashing with a cold front ,It lasred about three hours with gust of up to 91 mph and sustained winds of 65 mph + for over 1 hour , The worse winds were felt starting at around 2:00 pm .Basicly a fairly stong tropical storm came rolling through town .The hours of 1 to 3 were rocking Not a drop of rain only raging winds . Tightest pressure gradiants I have seen over land in a long time ,Pressure was noted my location form 30. mb , and they went down below 26 and were still falling before we lost communication .I have rod several Tropical Cyclone when I lived in the South East .and this had the feel of a Fairly strong topical storm minus the rains . So it kind became and for a short time Ike became a hurricane again over land while on it path to the North .The CDO Remnants was well over one hundred of mile away and Ikes ghost and fury was felt by many in Southern Indiana and Kentucky . Not sure about upstream , But we got our A$$ES Whooped big time in the Louisville area

237 thousand people + in Kentucky served by LG&E were with out power region total said to be over a half million without power .LG&E also said that people could expect to be out of power for perhaps weeks .Also in Louisville 133 roads roads were closed. 100 hundred schools are with out power and class has already been canceled for the start of the week .Western High Schol lost its gym roof , Over 3,100 powerlines are known to be down .LG&E also said that the number was 3X the amount of the famous 1974 tornado outbreak , thus the worst they ever seen . 911 and emergency operators got 2,200 calls alone from the hours 11am to 4 pm , An average days amount of calls to 911 is 1,200 for the entire day . There was 36 ambulances active and all first responders are called to duty . There was 400 fire runs with 25 structure fires with 8 significant fires during the storm

Ryder Cup golf tornement site suffered extreme

Most of my surrounding neighborhoods are without power , I have not net or telephone nor cable , But I do atleast have power . Damage was not that bad for me , Some of the people arround me took it pretty hard . We had a few big branches down .Other had them on their roofs and trees were on powerlines all over the place a real mess

  • You cheer then for not having school for a week? You won't be cheering when you find out we'll be going until June now..

  • i don't like hurricane ike. today is my fourth day without power. Those winds caused SO much damage!

  • You should have seen the winds in Florida, We even got 3 to 5 ft. storm surge during LOW tide. That Hurricane was far away but it pushed all that water toward us.
