Commander Rick explores different froms--novella vs. short story, trilogy vs. series--in comics and speculative fiction, with his guests: Bizarro cartoonist Dan Piraro, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles co-creator Kevin Eastman, Sandman writer Neil Gaiman, Uncanny X-Men writer Chris Claremont, Spirit creator Will Eisner, Love and Rockets co-creator Gilbert Hernandez, V For Vendetta artist David Lloyd, Stig's Inferno creator Ty Templeton, speculative writers Dave Duncan, Crawford Killian, Tanya Huff, Guy Gavriel Kay and George Zebrowski, and SF editors Jim Baen, Marianne Neilsen and Judith Merril. With clips from Misery and animation from Dan Piraro.
There's a neat episode on advice for people looking to get into the field. I think I have that around. It's dated now, but some of the ideas are fundamental.
I rather like the discussions on writing myself. They've really changed the way that I go about writing as a hobby, even if some of the suggestions take a while to sink in.

Hrm. That's a tough call. Despite being a fandork, I never got deep into a lot of comics. It's mostly the side effect of being a female geek who felt very awkward about going into comic shops until I went to college and got a backbone. XP
I'm also easily distracted and find it easier to follow trades, manga and other material collected into volumes. What I read is so different from each other that it's hard to find something that unites them. So... I'm really not sure. o_o

As a fan, do you have a favorite comic series that personifies the medium for you? ^^

I really dig all the discussions these episodes have about comics. I am an artist and writer myself and am looking to publish my own webcomics based on original story concepts or scripts I have typed (or handwritten) over the years.
