Pass over it everynight going to work on the Tri State Tollway...still leaves me in awe of how busy it is! When this was made, the Tri State was only a drawing on a sheet of paper! (lol)

The Chicago & North Western Railroad didn't die. Just the name of the railroad changed to Union Pacific. The old CNW's mainline from Chicago to the West Coast now sees more trains than any other time since World War II.

I could imagine that the CNW's 2-8-2 Mikes were no plodders when it came to hauling freight down the double-track line left-handed - they could get up and go when asked.

It seems to me that today's shippers do not mind what's on their cars ... it's what's INSIDE their cars that matters most. Still, for anybody to "tag" a railcar with graffiti is not a work of art, it is TRESPASSING and CRIMINAL DAMAGE TO PROPERTY. Shippers for railroads today are quite passive today and seem to forget how damaging the paint job can be.

All those suburbs that surround Proviso Yard were so small then...but not the case today! I love this! The anouncer says...How would you like to get in the middle of all those freight cars....gladly! (lol)

I pass over it everyday on the Tri-State Tollway (I-294)...still impressive and even more under Union Pacific at the helm.
