The Musical Box - The Genesis Of A Tribute Band DVD is an absolute MUST have for any fan of early Genesis. It is available at:

Steve Hackett visits with the best tribute band for any band around today - The Musical Box and even plays with them towards the end of this clip.
If you've never seen Gabriel/Hackett era Genesis live or you would dream to see them live again then I suggest you go see the Musical Box. I saw them live and it was just like being at a 70s Genesis concert. They are a dream come true and the play exactly like Genesis.

  • Steve Hackett is a Guitar God, PERIOD !!!

  • I always admired the fact that Steve plays his guitar like a musical instrument and not an extension of his naughty bits...

  • do you know when you die and go up to heaven, well for these guys its the musical version

  • We're seeing him and his band play a tiny hall in Holmfirth this Feb, can't wait!

  • Well done Steve Hackett. No airs and graces. A very humble and approachable man - and an excellent guitarist.

  • Like others here have asked: I hope there is video from this and also from Phil playing with them. Tommy, please, I know. But that is not what we ask for. We want the complete videos of this and Phil, not just bites.

  • There is a reason why Steve and Phil played with The Musical Box live...I have seen TMB twice now...do yourselfs a big favour and go see them. IMHO they are live better then Genesis ever was.

  • wow wow wow wow ....lucky guys.

  • So gracious that Steve would help these guys out.......and play with them!

  • Steve Hackett: King of the atmospheric sustain pedal. No one else comes close.

  • Nice! Hackett is such a cool dude!

  • My God! Can it get any better for these guys, or what??

  • @pacific707 also saw those shows, but didn't see "Gates" then, that was a couple years earlier ('75) at an outdoor gig, Colt Park in Hartford, CT, amazing w/Moraz on keys ... wish I'd seen Genesis back then, only knew about them from strange guy at my HS who was into them, Gong, Giles, Giles & Fripp, etc.

  • @pacific707 Funny, coincidence. I am a drummer by trade too. I have bass, guitar, and keys but I am a drummer through and through. Phil is a monster drummer, ain't he? top ten ... Buddy,Carl Palmer, Simon Phillips, Bonzo, Moon, Barriemore Barlow, Neil P., Alan white, Steward Copeland, Last but certainly not least Gadd. No specific order.

  • @godbluffvdgg It is an amazing song! I'm fairly certain that I could play this entire song on drums, with a little bit more practice.

  • A band called Downing Grey is about to launch its show that pays tribute to all of classic progressive rock. Firth of Fifth is one of their favorite Gensis pieces. You have to hear the power and exacting pefection this band brings to the stage. IN one night you will not only hear selections of superb Genesis work but you will be blown away by the Yes, Gentle Giant, King Crimson, Led Zeppelin, ELP, UK, Jethro Tull, Rush, Focus, Pink Floyd. Imagine 10 tributes at once. That's Downing Grey

  • @pacific707 Their imagery is forever ingrained in my mind. I see Anderson with an all white outfit with fringes looking like an angel; to a 17 year old. I think I am still high from that show.. : ) Gates is a epic I know every note and word.

Choose and renounce throwing chains to the floor.

As friction spans the spirits wrath ascending to redeem.

  • @godbluffvdgg For God's sake, I saw "Yes in the Round," in the late 70's in Cincinnati. Same show. I was stoked that they did "Gates of Delirium." It floored my sorry ass! Definitely high on my list of live shows and bloody fantastic...

  • Saw Steve on a solo tour, which included his brother, several years ago in a small venue here in San Francisco. He did not look a day older than the day he left Genesis in 1977! He played a full on version of "Hairless Heart" which practically left me in tears. The man is amazing!! Saw The Musical Box, for the 1st time, do the "Lamb" in it's entirety in September, 2011. Gobsmacked! Those guys worked their asses off! Not sure that they appreciated me yelling out "Suppers Ready" for the encore...

  • How lucky of the members of the musical box. I saw them do the whole lamb here at the tower theater near philly. I had seen everyone practically, since going to concerts since 75. Yes. Zappa, Mahavishnu, Weather Report, Genesis, Kansas,

Crimso at the greek in berkley et al. But, the lamb concert with the musical box was one of the highlights of my concert going life... Tied with Yes in the round at the spectrum. Thanks for making an old prog head happy. Magical in every sense.

  • Saw the show in Nottingham a couple of years ago. It was truly awesome. The stage show and music were spot on. Highly recommended

  • Not now - Glasgow and London dates released!!

  • these guys are touring the lamb now, everywhere apart from the uk....why is this???????????????????

  • @Mystep very well put!

  • Beautiful to see Steve with the band!

  • Had the opportunity to meet Steve at The Penguin for the first time in '93 during his Guitar Noir Tour. Treated my friend for who helped me out with my move. Also bumped into an old friend that night as well. Altogether it was such a dynamic, spectacular, and memorable evening I tell you!

  • "Steve, you have passed the audition!"
