@Mwstmrlnd You are right - it probably isn't "on it's own" representative of the era it belongs to. To call out skyrim though, I'd say it was over-rated. Although it is a fantastic game - It boils down to putting up with things as simple as mouse controls being broken and player choice being dumbed down. Take for example not being able to kill the leader of the storm-cloaks unprompted. Even New-Vegas let the player kill Caesar whenever he wanted. Although petty - all of those things detract.

@TomClark2 While I do find Grim Fandango enjoyable, I don't believe it is representative of a single great era of video games. Skyrim, for example, is an amazing game - it takes place in a world I want to live in, exactly like Fandango did each time I started it up.

@sephirothD2 All those examples are fantastic games. I bet though that you could list twice as many games that get twice as much publicity without half of the quality.

@TomClark2 There are really special experiences in current generation games, like Red Dead Redemption, Heavy Rain and Fallout 3. Also in games that didn't get the apreciation that deserved like Catherine and Mirror's Edge.
