Jim Reeves the well known American singer came out to South Africa in the 60's to film a movie called Kimberley Jim. He had a crack at singing a few South African songs as well in Afrikaans. Its fair to say that he isnt the best, but well done for having a crack at them none the less....check out my blog for more details

  • just to clear this up...its a bloody parody. jim is singing afrikaans but the words i added are just for a laugh.

as bad as my afrikaans is...its better than jim's

  • This is not correct Afrkaans. Non of those words above are Afrikaans maybe phonetically but it's not standard Afrikaans.

  • @JOSHTRUS really...do you think its perhaps a joke on my behalf.

the afrikaans work for satire or irony is miskeien hekelskrif or you could say i was being a bit ironies

  • its a bit of a piss-take. jim reeves seems to be making it up as he goes along.

Since I was born in England, I still managed to learn to speak afrikaans and perform in it.

so I guess I win. Twat.

here is my opinion. he was doing it for money... so i earn the right to mock it..

  • My mother in law loves this song (she is Maltese!) even though she doesn't understand a word he sings.

She asked my why Afrikaans has long a sounds, like tripple a (aaa). I didn't understand what she was talking about, until I had a look. very funny - I could barely read it myself! .

thanks for posting it. We had a good laugh. My husband told his mum plaasie means plesier! I am still chuckling about it.

  • @martinevans75 Just that people from Holland that watch you video don't understand the words and think this is Afrikaans. They can't understand why they can't understand it. It's because it's not written in standard Afrikaanks
