The Yunnan Weiqi Factory manufactures Yunzi stones used in the game of Go (aka 围棋, 바둑, 囲碁). The video is narrated in Chinese but contains interesting factory clips of the manufacturing process.

    Yunzi's are supposed to have lead in them. The highest quality Yunzi in China all have lead in them but at a very very low concentration.

    The thing I don't like about either is they are both highly manufactured. Bamboo is a hollow rod, the process to strip and build them into a large board with glue and lacquer is just way too processed for my tastes.

    Shell, Slate, and Wood on the other hand is so perfect. Shell carved into stone. Slate carved into stone. And most importantly a single, solid piece of wood, lines drawn with a samurai sword. You can't get more aesthetically pleasing or have more attitude than that!

    I like the yunzi stones better for some reason. Of course clamshell & slate are the gold standard in Go gear for many, but is something about yunzi stones on a bamboo board that induces relaxation and calm. Really enriches the experience, but then again I've only played with yunzi and not slate & shell. I really miss my yunzi set ;_;

    A good game of Go is mainly about attitude, IMHO.

    @Hikaru15323 actually Yunzi means stones made in Yun Nan Province, it doesn't mean single-convex although they r. real Yunzi is usually made of a mixture of several ingredients and some of them r kept secret. Clamshell and slate stones r the most expensive becuz Jap products r usually very expensive... -_-||| however, it doesn't mean they r the best. Jade ones, Yunzi, and shell r the best materials so far.

    not propaganda for sure. but it's not documentary either.... it's an advertisement (or say introduction as it's not like a typical ad.) of their yunzi factory which produces the Go stones...
