Enjoy a beautiful night in the Lighthouse Lounge, out on the tip of the pier, on an 80 degree evening in Seattle. This is an offline version of a smattering of raw footage clips from that awesome night of free speech and music.
Goldsmith co-produced this concert, on the pier on 08-10-97 with a non-profit, J.A.M. [Justice And Music]. It was a peaceful protest concert designed to stop the cigarette companies from using cartoon characters to sell their wares to kids. The timing of this underground movement, many believe, was the straw that broke the camel's back, literally. Joe Chemo was an awesome weapon that got the message across. We can thank Canada's AdBusters who created the campaign. The Joe Camel cartoon ad campaign was pulled from the advertising table... Sweet Victory! Goldsmith submitted his 30 second, already casted [Seattle celebrities, Artis The Spoon Man & Comic actor Jon Keister] commercial spot idea to Cole & Weber. James then produced and directed the T.V. spot. After 7 takes, Jon's cheeks were really sore. We chose the 2nd take. Artis the Spoonman and Jon Keister had never met until they were casted together. Magiclly comical, Goldsmith still laughs anytime he views the pairing of these 2 Seattle celebrities.
