Volker Kriegel + Spectrum: Colors of Cloe

The record is from the bootleg "1974 Liederhalle" which contains four songs. "Colors of Cloe", which was originally written by bass player Eberhard Weber for his solo record, is the second one. The other three were from Spectrum's same year album "Mild Maniac". The concert took place in the Liederhalle in Stuttgart, Germany. Besides guitarist Volker Kriegel I think the instrumentation would have to be:

Rainer Brüninghaus - keyboards; Eberhard Weber - bass;
Joe Nay - drums

"1974 Liederhalle" was freely published and is available for download somewhere on the net.

  • I bought a record in the early 80s or maybe it was before that, nvm, Volker K. i dont remember the name on the record, they siting behind a table and there are some dogs there 2, looks they have a party, i liked the record alot, and nice to find this music here, keep on diggin` jazz, thats life

  • @tkljung The record you talk about must be "Elastic Menu" and it came out in 1977.

  • WOW.. great Stuff.. JAzzman- thanks for posting. I have been a huge fan of Webers' for a lonnng time now... really cool to hear a different take on this great tune. anybody hear how Mr Weber is recuperating from his stroke of a few years back??

    BTB.. this drummer is KILLin'!!

  • Thanks, Tim. Weber suffered a stroke in april or may 2007. I read that he is doing better but i don't think that there are news about him.

  • Picked up a obscure album called Houseboat in about 1981 (in Melbourne of all places) and have been hooked since. Why though it is soooooo difficult to pick up any of his work!!!!!?

  • It's difficult indeed, even here in germany. Most of Kriegels work wasn't released on CD. Unlike Weber, Mangelsdorff and other companions he seems to become forgotten. Very sad.

  • @Jazzman1985 I am remembering Volker Kriegel through his great recordings. Most are now available on CD, including the phenomenal Inside:Missing Link. Also the Dave Pike Set albums with Volker.

  • Ever since I saw Volker Kriegel and the Mild Maniac Orchestra live in 1983 or 1984, I'm a total fan. I've downloaded his "Das Beste aus den 80ern" from itunes and listen to them a lot. (Contains most of my favourites from Octember Variations.)

  • The perfect blend of brains and heart...I've always loved this wide- open sounding song...this is my favorite version ...Thank you Eberhard Weber for a great song...

  • Superb.

  • A wonderous sound. A++++++++++
