  • @ SeattleP, there isn't much to show. You just have to gently use the hook tool inside the vent to pop the corner. Then you take the thin bladed tools and slowly pry around the bezel. It can take some time and be sure to do it in the warmer months.

@ mstente68, I am pretty sure the 2012 nav will also work with this hack but I am not sure. Go to legacygt.com and there's a thread discussion if 2012 will work.

  • Hey jcmark, I was looking at getting this in dash nav/dvd player opposed to the one that comes as an option for the 2011 outback, (google this Model #: QL-LGC761) With your expertise, will this be easy to swap out the car's harman/kardon bluetooth player for this in dash nav system? I was going to order this nav system online after buying the car... Also, will it be the same process to mod it like you did? Thanks for the video!

  • @SeattlePaddler

If you have the HK system, you may have to get some kind of adapter. Truth be told, I really don't know. That headunit you mentioned has been discussed on legacygt.com and I think someone ordered one too. Go search on the board. For installation, removing your existing and dropping in the new should be straight forward. The hardest part is pulling off the trim ring. Be sure to get the correct trim removal tools as the dash scratches REALLY easily.

  • Thanks for uploading this video. I'm now contemplating doing this hack to my 2010 Outback rather than give someone $50 to do it. One question: the wire that's added is an extra ground wire that goes from the green connector to the black ground wire? That's it...really? Nothing else?

Do you know how to remove the fake wood interior trim? I dislike the trim and would cover it in some kind of vinyl wrap. Thanks in advance

  • @TheSwearingChef / Yup....it just comes down to one ground wire to make this all work.

Yes, there are quite a few people who have covered the trim in vinyl or swapped / traded for the base silver trim package.

  • Hey jcmark, I just got a 2012 Outback. Do you know if this hack will work on the 2012?

  • I wish you would've shown how you pried the trim out instead of skipping that...especially the first corner

  • Nice job!

  • I have a 2008 Legacy GT I'm yet to drive.
