This process emulates the one that artist / musician / chess player John Cage used when he created a series of Monoprints titled ENINKA. During this process, a controlled fire is set on the press bed with newspaper, then various papers are laid on top, then felts, then run through the press. This should NOT be tried except under the supervision of a Master Printer.
The resultant print smoked monotype has singed irregular edges that, with branding by using heated implements, can then be chine-colleded on other papers or other surfaces if desired.

  • That's fascinating. I watched both of your videos on this.

  • Oh I bet the fire marshal would love this art project! LOL LOL LOL

  • Oh my gawd! Why did this make me so nervous!? My stomach is tight, my shoulders are scrunched up - hahaha. After each print, I did a whew. This makes gorgeous marks. And yeah! Cai Guo-Qiang. He makes me nervous too! Such a chicken. Thanks for this, as always. Love your vids.
