Since 2001, the state has had control of the Philadelphia Parking Authority. Then-Speaker John Perzel said that with a new locus of control, the PPA would work more efficiently and produce more money for the city and the schools. Instead, there's been more tickets, less free parking, lots of waste and the schools are getting jack. Special thanks to Helen Gym of 'Parents United for Public Education' for help with background.

  • Simple because if it didn't increase by 26$ every 14 days people would never make any attempt to pay it. Just like your bills they charge you late fees if you don't pay them on time it's an incentive. Now if i was a smart person which im sure all of you are and i messed up and got a 26$ ticket and i couldnt pay it i would be sure to call the number on the back and attempt to work out a payment plan or at least let them know you intent to pay it, so the late charges get frozen, but thats just me.

  • riddle me this how and why should a $26 ticket ballon up to $76 if you dont pay it ?

thats part of the problem a simple $26 should not have to triple itself it should be just $26....Listen look at city council for example what job in america allows you to retire 1 day get paid upon retirement and then the very next day go back to the same job you had making more money than you were making plus the money they just gave you? The next mayor will be a republican

  • @thrdthu Horseshit - the employees are a bunch of mental rejects.

  • One more reason to hate Philadelphia. When a city fails to ZONE itself properly, it creates a lack of parking. It's nice to be able to blame someone else for government's failure to plan properly.

  • The PPA officers may not of ordered the "Code Red" but they're following the order. "I'm just doing my job" is not an excuse ... ask the power company employees that shut off old peoples electric in winter and wind up killing someone. If YOUR MORALS can be bought then YOU ARE PART OF THE PROBLEM (period)

  • Thanks dude. I am unlike most Philadelphians in that I think that people should have to pay for parking, and paying a lot would be good. The reason is that I wan the schools, SEPTA and city services to have more money so the city will be better to live in. Also, fewer cars will make the city better to live in.

BUT the parking authority is clearly not helping the city, and that's too bad. Thanks for your clear critique.

  • But one should not get mad at the PPA officers. The politicians who are incharge of it are the ones you should be mad at. The PPA officers are just doing their jobs under the regulations that are being set for them.

  • This guy has broken down all the political b.s that I see with parking in Center City, Philadelphia. Thanks!
