An animated description of how a Hydraulic Hybrid Vehicle (HHV) works. The technology was developed by the EPA National Vehicle and Fuel Emissions Laboratory in partnership with Eaton and Navistar. UPS is the first company to buy an HHV vehicle, helping to bring little known technology into real-world testing and use.

  • As someone who has worked on the rear end of a truck, I want this system to develop into mainstream consumer vehicles...no more spider gears, U joints and drive shafts!!! Fewer moving parts, higher efficiency and reduced weight! I want one.

  • Why not an electric/hydraulic hybrid system? You get the best of both.

  • The best thing about this system is that there is no wasted energy in a transmission. The engine can run at the most efficient rpm 100% of the time. Makes since that the engine would last a lot longer too without all the hard acceleration.

  • wat program did they use to make this i need to make a similar presentation for a commercial any help or input would be greatly appreciated

  • This is very exciting stuff... Word is we might see this in passenger vehicles and trucks before 2013! Word is Ford has a full size F150 doing 40mpg in the Lab. Couple this technogy with Direct injection and Cylinder deactivation and we are going to be seeing some very powerful, yet very economical engines. Right now the engineering challenge is size and noise.

  • @3089280288 Hydraulics are more power dense, where as electrics are more energy dense. Practically what that means is that HHVs are better at regenerative braking. Adding an electric system would limit the range unless you had a ton of batteries which would make it way too heavy and expensive.

  • Compressed air is lighter than hydrolic fluid, why not use that?

  • pretty cool.

  • Unbelievable! This has a bigger than thought advantage over Prius-like cars: no expensive and polluting Lithium batteries

  • how fast that shit go, and how powerfull it is?
