'they arrested every drug that had ever been made'
Maybe the best lyric ever?

C'mon guys...the clash had depth about their lyrics, do your research.
Operation Julie screwed many young people with heavy sentences for silly possession amounts. google 'Operation Julie'
as usual 'the man' has been screwin' youth for a long long time.........

@KalahariSurf I have no doubt it was a success from the authorities perspective (although the fact undercover agents take drugs 'legally' is an ironic reality), but the outcome was draconian sentences for people experimenting at an experimental time of life. That Julie was working for the drug squad is immortalised in the song title, but on closer inspection, the lyrics also lament injustices inherent in the system (apologies to python).

@landscapecadmonkey Actually Operation Julie resulted in the biggest drugs haul anywhere in the world at the time. It was an operation to stop people making LSD in Wales. The operation was named after one of the female undercover cops. All the undercover cops had to take drugs to keep their covers and that's what inspired Joe to write the song

My first album by The Clash "Give "em enough Rope" They did get their fair share of abuse from The Sex Pistols and a few other hardliner narcissistic punk bands for sounding "too refined, too rehearsed" among other things. But they ignored their detractors and did what came naturally which just happened to include a strong common bond to survive rather than self-implode - complaining complacement lazy sod youth, fuckin' wake up and do something about it. The Clash cared and rocked post punk.

One of the most underrated Clash songs. Seriously, who ever mentions this song when talking about the Clash?
