@SharnyBear For others who don't want to listen to Richard's intro's (your loss!), the music starts at 2'05".

Yes, truckers can be spiritual I guess......

Talking intro's drive me nuts .. easy to forgive with such a great song though.

Shindell is one of American's great songwriters. (This isn't a "version" -- he's the author of the song, btw!) Check out his albums. He's something special.

I heard her sing it too! It was fantastic, but no one else at the venue seemed to know who Richard Shindell was. I was sad.

Happy 17 mai to you to then :-)
I have been playing Irish folk music since 94' so I feel I have a connection there too :-)

A belated HAPPY syttende mai!
Another artist who fits in the underrated is "Kieran Goss" - being Irish, I'm sure he has some Norwegian blood!
My favorite Kieran Goss song on youtube is "Reasons to Leave" - there are 4 more too...
PS I'm half Norsk & half Irish!

That's so true! Antje Duvekot is one of those too. Found out abot Richard and Antje through a band named SOLAS.
I heard Lucy Wainwright Roche do this live. It was really beautiful. This is an awesome version.

Thank you for uploading this gem! What a talent this man is. I feel sorry for those who listen to the mindless pop of today - or are stuck in the last generation of folk, who never find artists like Richard, Dar, Lucy - Dave Carter & Tracey Grammer. In years to come a new generation will find these and wonder how so many could have missed out on hearing these people live.
