  • Now I see where John Bonham got some of his ideas. Only steal from the best is what I say. I would bet Philly Joe could have played with any heavy rock act of the '70s - or any decade for that matter.

  • Philly Joe had awesome technique and always played great.

I love his recordings with Miles Davis they to me are the best!

I loved Paul Motian with Bill Evans a little more I think.

  • thats a fast nardis

  • philly joe, what can you say. joe speaks for himself through his snare drum! joe was also a fine piano player, and tenor sax man in addition to his upright bass playing, With the Left hand. Bill Evans favorite drummer. it is a shame that drummers of this generation are not aware of Joe and the masters before him. all the great bop drummers came from swing. most modern players come from rock and do not swing and play too much, especially with the left hand, confusing the music in the process

  • Oh my God how I love this musician!!!!

  • fly collar slick

  • is the theme song at the end by zappa or is that just what music sounded like back then

  • Well, this is MY favorite drummer. Just totally fresh and cool and like nothing before or since.

  • You have to earn the right not to use your hi hat...

    he definitely earned it.

    I love this guy.

  • Wtf at 0:52

  • buddy was one of philly joe's favourite drummers. he was also quoted as saying that if any drummer didn't pay attention when bernard rich got up on his throne that they were going through life with their head up their ass. i would have to agree with that asessmant.

  • buddy was one of philly joe's favourite drummers.
