Adam J. Zolotor, M.D., assistant professor in the department of family medicine in the UNC School of Medicine, speaks about his study that shows a link between spanking and physical abuse. Zolotor's study found that mothers who report that they or their partner spanked their child in the past year are nearly three times more likely to state that they also used harsher forms of punishment.

  • I can tell by your language ,violent attitude and overall likability that it must have really worked for you when you got spanked. Thanks for being such a great example to the great results that spankings get

  • the reason kids use violence is becouse they learn it from there parents. If hitting a child is harmless disciplein than wouldnt be just as harmless when done to the parent? I was spanked and it caused rebellion in me. I will never respct someone that hits me, idont care who it is that does it.

  • Thanks for this.

  • I'm not sure if spanking is abuse or not, but just because in the past was acceptable to some extent does not mean that it wasn't still abuse then. Way back in the day in America, children used to work coal mines 7 days a week with crazy hours. It may have been socially accepted, but that does not mean that it was not wrong. African American's in the south used to have to use different water fountains and different bathrooms, etc, just because of their race. Was that right as well?

  • Parents who spank are 3 times more likely to use physical abuse?, It is pretty disturbing that spanking is consider rather an acceptable way of "education" than fysical abuse against children on the first place.

  • Thats deez digital kids problem now when I was kid in the 80's we got beat with sticks, belts, extention cords, and anything else parents could get there hands on what makes it child abuse now.

  • @AngelDust155 Love, kindness, compasion, forgiveness, gentleness, mercy, understanding, setting a good example ect. these are the tools one needs to be a good parent not paddles, switches, belts, hands, fist, ect. Anyone with a brain should be able to figure this out .THe guilt and fear that one experiences through punishment especially physical pain causes an imbalance in ones spirit that comes back out later in the form of bad behavior regardless if they realize the connection..

  • @guidav123 Obviously then your brother wasn't suppose to be spanked. The point of parenting and discipline is knowing your child and knowing what they react better towards. If your brother listened when your dad took some toys away or something than your dad took it too far with the spanking. However I know people who said that they were brats as kids and when they got spanked they learned their lesson. Fact. Not every child needs a spanking. Fact. But some listen better when they do.

  • @AngelDust1 Yes i was spanked as a child. I remember even at age eight seeing my father spank my older brother thinking to myself. what an idiot anyone with a brain can see that that don't work. And i was right it made him rebell and to this day they don't have much of a relationship. I have observed it my whole life and have seen evidence of it's harms everywhere i look. I Have never spanked my child nor have i allowed anyone else and She is the best behaved child in her school.

  • @guidav123 Or just don't. Forget it. You aren't gonna convince me and I'm not gonna convince you. Let's just drop it. Because honestly I'm getting sick of having to repeat myself over and over again and constantly being ignored.

  • @guidav123 Smoke... what? My parents don't smoke. Lucky ONES.. I just gave you proof of nearly everyone I know who weren't harmed in spanking. And no, the human race has gotten worse, crime, teenage pregnancy, and obesity is off it's rocket here in America. And honestly were you spanked? Because if not where is your right to say how it effects me or others?

PLEASE actually read my comment before commenting back because you keep ignoring everything I tell you.

  • @AngelDust155 So you managed to grow up being spanked by some watered down version of it and turned out o.k., Thats like a child growing up with two parents that smoke and not getting lung cancer. your one of the lucky ones. I can see that you learned that violence is the way to solve problems. After thousands of years the human race is just as bad as it ever was( wow it must have worked!) ANd where do you get this idea that kids don't get spanked anymore? Iknow of none other than my own.
