If I exit totally out of vmware player, I don't get this graying and sluggish performance in Open Office's Writer.

When I start VMWare Player and just minimize it, Open Office grays out for some mysterious message. I am using Ubuntu 10.04 64-bit version with 6GB RAM.
Note how the screen pauses and the video turns gray. Quite annoying. There is no foreground application running in the VM. BTW, the VM is Windows XP.
