  • I was at karate class today, and got PULLED UP for using a classic stance like this. I could not believe the absurdity of the stance I was told to use instead.

Basically, if punching towards 12 o'clock with the left leg forward, the front foot would be pointing towards 1 o'clock, and the back foot towards 11 o'clock. In addition to that, the knees are buckled inwards...

Sound retarded? It was. Felt extremely unnatural and offered no power to punching. Shit like that gives karate a bad name.

  • How the fuck am I going to bury my chin behind my shoulder?

  • @xinktx You're wrong, weight on your front foot is dedicated to more offensive fighters, you can kick without stepping. If your weight is on the rear foot you're able to lift your knee to block kicks. It's your choice because there isn't perfect stance.

  • This video demonstrates the opposite of what a good stance is...all your weight on your front foot...leading with your chin...and while he bounces his hands come down past his chin...again...very sloppy form...learn what real muay thai is before you go teaching beginners who are looking for a good teacher the wrong way

  • @Fireballoy Haha :) when you throw a punch, you throw it a little upwards, which will make your should muscle raise, that way you can bury your chin behind it. Remember to open your defending hand, getting hit with your own knuckles hurts a lot, an open hand doesn't. Never clinch a fist when punching, you only make a fist right before you hit your opponent, that is for maximum speed. Hope it helps :)

  • @AAmirkhanov they have incorporated all western boxing punches, however the traditional muay thai punches were mainly the cross and a "lazy" punch similar to an overhand. So maybe they just dont use hooks and uppercuts as extensively as a boxer

  • @sbowesuk that;s just basic training for karateka's

in real fighting you will move how you like ...

  • @utubesqueeze Thanks for the info. I was wondering about one thing though; hasn't Muay Thai in Thailand incorporated hooks and uppercuts, or are they just not that prominent?
