  • dont be too shy to try it though. it helps alot knowing the idea behind the tension and tuning and knowing will only help you become a more rounded tabla player. it took me a couple of tries to get it right, spent about 3 HOURS the first time. very frustrating but it got easier every time to where i can do it about an hour. still not near as fast as a professional but it sounds better every time i do it and learn from it GOOD LUCK!! and thanks for this it gave me alot of shortcuts

  • I use small nails to nail the head to the tabla. Use them right under the head under the braids. I use about 1/2 to 3/4 inch, making sure that the nail doesn't block the openings for the straps. It'll save you a ton of headache dealing with the head slipping all the time.

  • Kalyan makes this looks really simple. Guys, if you have to do this and have choice, get this done professionally. It is extremely difficult on hands and needs some experience to do it right.
