Brian shows how the resultant path is formed, and how with only one swing direction, wildly different shots can occur, even with a square face

  • Brian, can you give me some numbers, Ball park, if the ball is going low left to medium height left with about 10 yards more curve. Shot ends up 20 to 40 yards off line. path looks on plane, maybe slightly in to out very little divot. Player is 4 or 5 handicap. Use to be a very good Hockey player with a vicious wrist shot. By the way. I'm starting to understand why you keep your instruction so custom based. Wish I had a trackman. Thanks

  • Excellent demonstration. Clubface rotation in relation to the path is another important factor. As James Leitz wrote on the Trackman Golf Blog,"Based on 3D research completed by Titleist, none of the players tested swing the clubface perpendicular to the path at all times. This measurement was made on 34 of the top 100 PGA TOUR players. Also, there are different successful rotation rates among top PGA TOUR players. So it is the consistency of one’s rate that returns the clubface square at impact."

  • Brian, is it right to say that at the exact bottom of the swing ie the 2nd ball, the club's heel & toe are level & square to target. But on the 1st & 3rd impact positions, the toe would be higher than the heel and hence the clubface's plane gets twisted further out of line ... adding to the right-of-target flight for the 1st ball and left-of-target flight for the 2nd ball?

how can we compensate for this?

    thanks

  • Good stuff. Ball position would be key in this application, then.
