My Husband proposed to me in the Garden....I have always been a histry buff and this was my favorite place to go as a chid on field trips.

That is they way it was back then. Slaves built the Pyramids, slaves built Rome, and they built monticello. As unfortunate as slavery was and is today, you cannot compare 2009 to the 18th century.

Great example of a non-sequitor. Thank you.

Slaves did not build the Pyramids. read your history again. Rome was built by the Romans.

If you like Monticello, you support slavery.

How beautiful and majestic and what a panoramic view Monticello sits upon. I can understand why this great man Thomas Jefferson loved his home.
All this was built and taken cared of by African Americans.

I loved the Mini-Series on HBO John Adams but I really think they should make one on Thomas Jefferson too...

@jeanol1 ur quite ignorant to call him a hypocrite. Slavery was popular belief back then and if Jefferson fought against it, he would've lost all political stature and ergo no declaration of independence and we would still be under british influence. He foresaw the future which is why he said all men ARE created equal hoping that eventually slavery would be eliminated. He was obviously not racist as he slept with sally hemmings, a slave who he specially adored.
Very perceptive... no doubt that includes the black docent in the video.

You're welcome! It's the same music that was played during Obama's victory speech in Chicago: "The Patriot" by John Williams.

Thank you for offering this lovely video. What beautiful music you've put to these images. I just watched the PBS video Thomas Jefferson for the first time and really enjoyed learning more about this amazing man's life. I've added the video link to my blog. Thank you! 5 stars. :-)
