This workshop dubbed "School Improvement:Effective Leadership and Management in Conditions of Stringency" was open to all educational stakeholders and non-stakeholders and bringing together teachers and parents of private/public primary/secondary schools, business organizations, educationalists, students, other professionals and the main focus was to raise total awareness at all levels of educational leadership and management of the unavoidably difficult socio-economic circumstances and challenges schools and communities face in the vast majority of developing countries by and large and Cameroon in particular, so together we can develop practical strategies, find sustainable ways and means of systematically tackling our educational problems and dilemmas that are an impediment to raising educational standards, winning the fight against extreme poverty and giving every child, adult, community the opportunity to achieve their true potential. Unless and until we tackle the socio-economic difficulties schools and communities face, we will never ever be in a position to provide the quality of education needed to fight extreme poverty, raise aspirations, widen opportunities, equip young people with the skills, knowledge, social values and attitude to cope with problems of living and working.
We all agree that the elimination of poverty and progress towards sustainable development will only take place if there are increased and improved levels of education.
However, increased and improved levels of education needed to eliminate poverty and enhance sustainable development will require huge financial and qualified human resources.
The community clearly can be a huge source of resources.
It was also a fantastic opportunity for Optimus Education Foundation to succinctly share its vision, beliefs, values and ethos within the framework of improving the quality of education and training in Africa by and large and Cameroon in particular, in order to fight extreme poverty and more importantly demonstrate how it intends to achieve this vision.
