"Art and Science"

Leonard Shlain, Surgeon and Author

Conversations host Harry Kreisler welcomes Leonard Shlain, Chairman of Laparoscopic Surgery at the California Pacific Medical Center and Associate Professor of Surgery at UCSF for a discussion of his career as a surgeon and as an author. Dr. Shlain talks about his three previous books--Art and Physics; The Alphabet Versus the Goddess; and Sex, Time and Power and his forthcoming book on Leonardo da Vinci. He highlights the brain/mind theme that recurs throughout his works, analyzes the roots of creativity, and analyzes the differences between male and female perspectives. He concludes with his thoughts about the future.

  • Was that noise a cell phone or pager?

  • he could at least turn his cell phone off

  • The man is simply decent. The only shitty part in this interview is the interviewer !

  • Wish they'd bring out Leonardo's Brain.

  • rofl

  • Oh, i just checked it and found that he died a few days ago. His knowledge in medical science did not help him to live long enough...

  • hoping Dr. shlain keeps his health well enough to write yet another book..his contribution to evolution is important to say the very least..a glance in the right direction in this our "via dolorosa"

  • Harry, I learned English mainly through reading . So my listening comprehension is not as good as my reading comprehension. Harry, I hope you can post all transcripts of the interviews on the web.
