Police video: Hawkeye Josh Koeppel hit by a truck

The Iowa City Police Department released this video recorded from a squad car camera showing Hawkeye football player Josh Koeppel on his motorcycle getting hit by a truck. The accident happened Monday morning, Aug. 30, 2010, at the intersection of Burlington Street and Gilbert Street. (www.HawkCentral.com)

At the same time, a Ford F150 pickup was eastbound on Burlington. A police officer who witnessed the crash said the driver of the truck attempted to make a left-hand turn onto Gilbert Street and collided with Koeppel in the intersection. The driver was cited for failing to yield.

It will make significant difference, but the people saying "This wouldn't have happened if he was wearing a helmet"... It would have happened. Just wouldn't have been as painful. It's like saying seat belts will PREVENT accidents, no... It'll help save a life, but it won't save you from an accident.

leather chaps woldnt have saved him very much just road rash. a helmet could have been life or death right there. i had a acident a car tboened me and my 1990 zx600d and i was only wereing blue levis and a short sleave t shirt , i did suffer road rash but most of my injerys was my crushed leg from the ford explorer. leathers wont protect against broken bones and soft tissue damage from a car.
