Took my eleven-year-old to Henlopen for one more before school. Told him: it's a bay day. Nothing waves. But I'd brought my toys. After going fins and handboard for a bit, gave him the handboard; he shucked his boogieboard; I kept the fins. Handplowing through cobbles like Moses parting the Red Sea. Like sliding into home; yet couldn't have been softer. Down there with the substrate, feelings you can't get on a board. Nothing became something. With this game it always does.
