Royal caravanserai of Ribat-i Sharaf, 12th century AD, Seljuk style in Iran
During my visit in Iran in January 2003, at the beginning of my journey on the Silk Road, I reached this magnificent caravanserai on a cold, blue sky, winter day. It is located on the road between Mashad and Sarakhs, 6 kilometers south of Shorleq or Shurloq, tucked away in hilly terrain between the mountains, close to the border with Turkmenistan and on the ancient caravan route between Nishapur (Iran) and Merv (Turkmenistan).
