Magnificent County took Blackpool apart at Bloomfield Road to record their biggest away win for 39 years.

Not since 1965 and a 7-1 victory at Bradford City, ironically next Saturday's opponents, have the Hatters won by a bigger margin on the road.

After losing the opening two games Sammy McIlroy made a couple of changes to his starting eleven. Marc Bridge Wilkinson dropped to the bench to accommodate Danny Jackman down the left.

And John Hardiker made a rare start at centre-half in place of Lee Mair who had come down with an upset stomach.

Roared on by another huge following the Blues started brightly and it was no surprise when they took the lead with just ten minutes on the clock.

Lee Cartwright picked out Jackman on the far side of the box and the little midfielder beat Sasa Ilic with a well-struck half volley.

The Seasiders almost levelled six minutes later when Keigan Parker got in behind Hardiker but Neil Cutler blocked his shot.

Hardiker then popped up at the other end when Ashley Williams set up a great chance but he headed staright at Ilic.

With 31 minutes on the clock Mark Robertson played Jacman into an almost identical position to when he scored but this time he blazed over.

A second goal wasn't long in coming, though. Just a minute later Rickie Lambert nodded Derek Geary's cross down to Warren Feeney who prodded the ball home off the underside of the bar.

And County should have added another within seconds of the restart. Danny Adams played a great ball into the box but, for once, Luke Beckett's finishing let him down.

This stirred the home side into action and they would have pulled one back from John Murphy's header but Cutler pulled off a breathtaking save to turn the ball over the bar.

The Tangerines expected onslaught in the second half soon fizzled out and County took a firmer grip on the game with a third goal on 50 minutes.

Cartwright, who covered every blade of grass, popped up on the left to cross to Beckett who beat Ilic with a well-placed header into the bottom corner.

Former County favourites Mike Flynn and Rob Clare were having a torrid time against the Hatters' strike force and Beckett caused them more heartache with his fourth goal of the season just after the hour.

Cartwright was again the provider with a clever ball down the channel and the Hitman didn't need a second invitation to lift the ball over the stranded Ilic and into the back of the net.

Martin Bullock was providing the main threat at the other end and one trademark run into the box ended with another magnificent Cutler save.

With Bloomfield Road echoing to the tune of the Blue & White Army's victory anthems Beckett should have grabbed his hat trick when he met Andy Welsh's cross at the far post but his header was too close to Ilic who made the save.
