This was my personal scrap heap challenge!
To build a simple workshop heater that can be run on Bio-Diesel without spending thousands!
For years I have wanted to scrap this old paraffin blow torch as it needed a good rebuild and never worked right! So after a few quick rebuilds, I decided to spend a few hours making some new parts! Now it works as it did when it was new!
Cost to run on home made bio diesel? About 2p per hour! Or 1 cent per hour!
Consumption around 0.1 litre per hour Heat Output? Between 2 3 KW?
Heat output based on temperature rise over 3 hrs
Compared to normal electric 2 - 3Kw fire heating! Costing around 45p per hour!
Large Detached Double Garage - single brick
Apex roof - Full of heat absorbing items!
Temperature rise 5 degree's in 1 hour!
Design is not perfect and added an asbestos solder mat over cone and blow torch to catch slight un-burnt fuel fumes.
Project now? To build a larger tank version with twice the heat output! A lot safer and with enclosed flue system! Watch this space!!!!! Good old technology never goes away?
Look forward to your comments and any help on this project! Its much better than messing around with a Babington burner!
All the Best,
Bob
Excellent job! :) Congratulation!

I think I would be tempted to just feed it a regulated air supply

Are you still running the paraffin heater on Biodiesel?

Do you know where I can buy the leather cup washers for the pump I have a old parraffin blowlamp and all it needs is a cup washer to pump up the pressure. the old washer was in bits

I've seen this before what you have done there is brilliant Idea that should keep everything in your workshop nice and cozy shouldn't it??? sounds a bit noisey I think too does any of your nabors complain?? or are they ok with it and not botherd hope you don't mind me asking. And I've seen those blow torches in car boot sales but the people ask a small fortune at least 50.00 for those parrafin blow lamps I know there old but I bet they could save a small fortune compared to gas lamps. Ste BSc.

That's pretty good! Sounds like it could be noisy though, although it'll be cheap to run. I've got a propane space heater, but the amount of gas the damn thing uses is horrific!

I'm pleased you didn't scrap that paraffin burner. Nice old brass thing.
I look forward to Mark 2! I need something like this instead of my thirsty red diesel heater.
