On August 12 and 13 Antietam National Battlefield hosted the Technology of War Weekend. Presenters included living historians portraying Company C of Berdan"s 2nd U.S. Sharpshooters. Their demonstrations of the contrast between the speed of loading and firing muzzleloaders vs. breechloaders was a real crowd pleaser. Author and collector Vince Armstrong, brought in his extensive collection of Civil War longarms and presented his talk "Why Did They Fight That Way?" to large and appreciative audiences. Finally, volunteer Justin Carisio presented one of the very best living history demonstrations that I have ever witnessed with his Civil War Signal Corps program. I hope you enjoy these excerpts. Let me know what you think.
