This is a clip from Ghana television channel GTV's daytime news broadcast. The story is regarding efforts in the Brong-Ahafo Region of Ghana to highlight safe motoring in a regional campaign that has apparently reduced fatalities on it's roads.

The clip shows officers of the National Road Safety Commission & Ghana Police checking cars in the region & the documents of drivers, and gives an excellent record of the poor state of maintenance of some of the vehicles you might find on Ghana's roads.

One thing that I cannot help noticing is the lack of cedis being handed over between motorists and officials.......perhaps the TV cameras played a part in that ???

  • sunyani is a good place.. cleaner than a lot of areas

  • @GHAfrica - I've not been there, unfortunately......one of three capitals I've not made it to (Ho & Wa being the others)........I make it a point to get to Ho & Sunyani at least on my next trip......

I urgently need some good photos of Sunyani for my website, too.......if anyone reading this can provide me with some clear photos of the city centre of Sunyani, then I would really like to put them on our Ghana-pedia reference page for the city.....

  • Gifty Anti.... this old girl has been working for GTV for as long as I can remember.

  • ....Ghana Police makes me sick ! Lots of GP officers take bribes then allow tattered and faulty cars back on the roads....an accident waiting to happen.

  • Yes, this is a major problem........I got hassled because my licence plate light wasn't working a couple of years ago near Cape Coast, but I pointed out to the cop that he wants to take me to court for that, yet how many tro-tros have I had to sit behind that have faulty or missing brake/indicator lights......

In the end, one cedi took car of business......

Also, how many trucks have blowouts because they are running on tyres that are down to the wire ????

  • I'm sure Gifty is a dear to the over 50s audience, but GTV have a couple of young hotties presenting for them, namely Joyce Smidley and Judith Bedi-Mensah......

Fans will see some of their work in my posts !
