Zainah Anwar, Executive Director of Sisters in Islam (SIS), works on the rights of Muslim women within the framework of Islam to end discrimination against women in the name of religion while upholding the principles of justice, equality, freedom and dignity within a democratic state.
In this short interview (four minutes), she tells Global X the story of a woman who spent over seven years out of an eight-year marriage to try to get a divorce from her violent husband, even though he had already remarried and had children with his new wife.
Zainah Anwar, an optimist, hopes that her current work will become irrelevant in the next 10 years. She knows that the laws that Malaysia has inherited from the British need to be adapted to the new realties that women are now facing. She is convinced that "justice will prevail, because the realities of our lives are totally different from when these laws were first conceptualized."

Well, Ms Zainah is working to empower women. I am all for that. =) I don't see why people are so hung up over her statements. She makes sense. :)

Direct quote: "...in countries like Malaysia where Islam is used TO resist change.." who said so? where the hell does she get the idea? Is she even a Muslim? Oh God, I cant even compute what she is trying to fight for. Ridiculous. She made us Muslim women in Malaysia look stupid. She certainly does not represent us.

The status of the Muslim woman in Islam is very noble and lofty one, and her effect is very great in the life of every Muslim. Indeed, the Muslim woman is the initial teacher in the building of a righteous society, providing she follows the guidance from the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Prophet

Itulah akibat bila ulama' suu' (jahat) berleluasa dan berkuasa. Ulama akhirat diketepikan dan dibiarkan macam anjing menyalak bukit...dihina oleh pemerintah Islam sendiri. Perkara yang sesat pun susah masyarakat nak beza. Allahuakbar!

Wei! Ikut akidah kau, agama mana yang masuk syurga? ISLAM
