Not too exciting, but here's the first look at the second kart. Not very different, but just a rolling chassis at this point. The steering is angled a little higher, the front tires are different, and the front axle has been moved back an inch or so.

I simply couldn't wait to get on it and see how it felt. I tied a rope to it and my neighbor drove it while I used the first kart to tow it up the hill. I got on and rode it down on gravity power. The modified steering geometry seems to work well. Also, without the weight of batteries and all that other stuff, it's pretty light, and the handling is very crisp. Some of that is probably the different front tires. Just like when I did this with the first kart, it seems to beg for the application of power - I can't wait. More coming soon...

  • Did you make the steering set up? If so, how long did it take you, how hard was it and what materials did you use? Thanks!!!

  • I purchased the steering rod, the wheel, and the tie rods. The mounting of everything was all me. You can pretty much buy all the parts, then you just have to figure out how and where to weld it to your frame.

  • if your still fabricating, the NK II, you should make some time lapse footage of some of the build, using a webcam, i made a sculpture out of old computer parts, took me 3 hours, but, with time lapse, the video was 3 minutes long.

  • That's a good idea - I'm going to look into that. If nothing else, I can do a time-lapse of the build up.

  • hey mark, Thats looking really good. One question, What made you go for bigger tyres on the front of this kart when the last karts were smaller. Just interested because I went for a very similar tyre setup. I feel with this way there will probanly be more traction. John

  • To be honest, the first thing I noticed when looking for the new tires was that they seemed to put a little more rubber in contact with the ground. Second, they fit the rims and were less expensive. Unfortunately, I found out that, after modifying the battery boxes on the orignial kart for Optima batteries, the bigger tires wouldn't fit the original kart. Oh well. In the rolling test, they seem to grip pretty well. Let's see how it goes with full weight on the kart.

  • how much for just a chassis like this

  • can you give me a video on how you built the frame or just instructions, diagrams, etc. thank you

  • it looks good so far

  • now all we need to be complete is some crazy camber i'd say ~12-15°

  • he built that out of his own, dude.

Had you any hope of being a decent welder, yuo could probably get the parts for a few hundred dollars to produce one of these.

  • nice frame
